The Defence Headquarters (DHQ), says it has recovered over 2.7 billion naira worth of items including crude oil, AGO from economic saboteurs during the Military operational engagements in some parts of the Niger Delta region.
According to the reports, troops have conducted anti illegal oil refining operations in the creeks, town and communities within the region within the period under review and recorded significant successes.
The Coordinator Defence Media Operations (DMO) Major General Benard Onyeuko made this known to Newsmen on Thursday during a bi-weekly briefing on the Armed Forces of Nigeria (AFN) and other security agencies operational activities of the between 30 June –14 July 2022 at the DHQ in Abuja.
General Onyeuko said,
troops of Operation DELTA SAFE on operation OCTOPUS GRIP conducted operational activities in creeks, towns and communities in the Niger Delta region of Delta, Bayelsa and Rivers State and recorded a milestone achievements.
“In the cause of conducting anti illegal oil refining operations, troops discovered and destroyed 109 illegal refining sites, 34 wooden boats, 150 storage tanks, 119 ovens, 104 dugout pits. Cumulatively, within the period under review troops recovered 27 pumping machines, 1 weapon, 1 speed boat, 13 vehicles, 7 outboard engine, Four Million Three Hundred Thirty Nine Thousand (4,339,000) litres of crude oil, Two Million Fifty One Thousand (2,051,000) litres of AGO and Thirty Thousand (30,000) litres of DPK.
“Troops also arrested 24 economic saboteurs. All recovered items and apprehended oil thieves were handed over to the appropriate authorities.” he noted.
In the North East, the DMO said within the period, the military has witnessed unprecedented surrendering of the top profile of terrorists’ commanders including a WALI whose rank is equivalent to Governor and KAID (a 3 star Commander).
“The surrendered are; Mallam Mala Hassan (WALI), Ali Madagali (MUNZUR), Musa Bashir (CHIEF ANUR), Buba Dahiru (MUNZUR), Jafar Hamma (KAID) and Abbali NAKIB Polisawa.
“Also, about 3,858 Boko Haram Terrorists and their families surrendered between 1-14 July 2022, comprising 505 male, 1,042 Female and 2,311 children.”
He further said, 42 terrorists were killed,10 arrested, and recovered cache of dangerous weapons within the period.
All the arrested terrorists and the recovered firearms were handed over to the investigative authority for further investigation.
Troops also conducted several operations in some parts of the North West and North Central zones , killing bandits, terrorists and kidnappers, rescued scores of kidnapped victims, recovered arms among others within the period under review.
